True Leadership
This past week, I had the privilege of sharing my message with the top agents from Allen Tate Realtors. The leadership team invested the time and resources to bring the agents together to examine the questions and opportunities the current market presents.
We had a great session with fabulous questions and input from the agents. While they may have been challenged by the current market, they pushed away all fear. They refused to be victims of circumstance but instead fought to find the right solution for every problem discussed. It was truly inspiring to be around them.
While I was speaking, I noticed that Pat Riley, their tremendous leader, had tears in his eyes. If you don’t know Pat, he is a strong, tough ex-football player. Why the tears?
I started to realize that they were TEARS of PRIDE. As a leader should, he brought his team together to insure they were ok and help them maintain their strength through the winter months. What he found was that they were more than ready to do whatever needed to be done. Afterward, he told me how lucky he was to lead such a special team of talented people.
Thinking back on it during my flight home that night, I too started to cry. I realized that as lucky as Pat was to have that group, they were just as lucky to have him. Together they are doing very special things during very difficult times. Together they are setting the example of what true leadership is all about.
What happened that day can, and should, be duplicated in every region of the country. It is up to us to turn this thing around.

Thanks for being so darned real. And thanks for reminding us that we get to be real, too. It’s not all hype and scripts and pushing– sometimes– it’s truth and tears and determined commitment. Thanks for being so darned real.
